Even before they moved in, they threw themselves into learning — taking courses on olive cultivation, meeting with local experts, and making plans to bring these “sleeping giants” of the orchard back to life.

Then everything unraveled.

As they started refinishing the siding, they peeled back the surface — and wall by wall, the ugly truth came out. Rotted framing. Mold. Poorly patched repairs hidden behind fresh drywall. What was supposed to be a cosmetic fixer-upper turned out to be a structural nightmare.

My brother is the kind of person who never asks for help. He puts his head down and works. And that’s exactly what he’s been doing — working day and night, burning through their savings, going into debt, and spending every dollar on materials just to keep the house standing.

But it’s too much for one person to bear alone.
