Help RDQCA Gain Non-Profit Status

Donation protected

The Red Deer Queer Community Association (RDQCA) is a recently formed organization that runs both the LGBTQIA+ Youth Pride, and the LGBTQIA+ Red Deer adult group. The RDQCA was formed to better approach other organizations in Central Alberta for the purpose of collaboration, donations, and so much more.

RDQCA is currently run by only two members, Rhys and Alex Pugatschew. Rhys is a trans man and identifies as asexual. Alex is non-binary and also identifies as asexual.

Though they only moved to Red Deer in 2017, they have made waves in the community already. One of the largest and best events they organized thus far, was the Queer Prom in June of 2019. It was a hit with the youth of Red Deer and RDQCA intends on making it an annual event.

Alex and Rhys chose to use the word “Queer” for RDQCA, fully aware of its history and the word’s tenuous use within the LGBTQIA+ community.

However, they believe that in using a reclaimed word, the LGBTQIA+ community can also reclaim a place in this city that so many within the community believe has been lost to them.

RDQCA requires funds in order to gain non-profit status. With this, RDQCA can begin applying to grants and organize more official fundraisers and events.

In order to gain non-profit status, RDQCA must pay the following fees:

- $75 incorporation fee (as per the Alberta government)
- $25 Federal NUANS report ($35 expedited)
- $108 Red Deer Business registration (annual fee)*
- $67 Tax and Postage fees
- Any excess funds will put directly towards administrative fees, promotional materials.

For a total of $300.00

Once all these fees are paid, RDQCA will have non-profit status and will be able to pay for other anticipated fees via grants or official fundraisers.

*Some of you who have worked in the non-profit sector may be wondering why we've included the business registration on here. As per the City of Red Deer, we wouldn't be required to purchase this license if we remain a "shoe-string operation" with no paid employees or commercial space. However, we have absolutely no intention of remaining small. Once we gain our non-profit status, our goal is to absolutely seek out funding that will allow us to operate in such a capacity that requires a commercial space, with employees and volunteers.

Any funds raised exceeding our $300 goal will be going directly toward furthering the RDQCA in this capacity.
(You can see what we're talking about regarding the business licencing of NPOs here)
