My name is Patrick Quaye, a Registered Nurse from Ghana, and I am sharing this story with a heart that is grieving but still holding on to hope—for my children, and for the woman who gave them life.

In November 2021, I married my beloved wife, Doris Asante. Doris was more than my wife; she was my closest companion, my strength, and the heartbeat of our home. She was kind, compassionate, and deeply devoted to her family and to caring for others as a nurse. Together, we shared a dream of building a better future for our family through our profession and hard work.

We were blessed with three beautiful children: two little boys, now aged two and three, and our precious baby girl, born on 9 September 2025. Our plans were carefully laid out. I would travel ahead to the UK, complete my nursing registration, secure employment, and then bring Doris and the children to join me so we could start a new chapter together. By July 2025, that dream felt within reach—I had passed my OSCE and received my UK NMC PIN. Everything we had prayed and worked for was finally aligning.

Then, without warning, our lives were torn apart.

On 2 October 2025, I received news that Doris had been admitted to St John of God Hospital in Sefwi Asafo after experiencing severe chills, joint pain, and weakness. Her condition deteriorated rapidly; her breathing became laboured, and she was placed on oxygen. On 5 October, she was urgently transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for specialist care. I clung to hope, believing she would recover and return home to our children. But on 6 October 2025, I received the most devastating call of my life—Doris had passed away. She was diagnosed with sickle cell disease and a pulmonary embolism.

In a single moment, my wife was gone, and our children lost their mother. Our newborn daughter was only a few weeks old. Our two little boys were too young to understand why the person who held them, comforted them, and sang them to sleep would never come home again. I returned to Ghana to bury my wife and begin a life I never imagined—raising three very young children alone, while grieving the love of my life.

Doris was the heart of our family. She gave endlessly to our children and to everyone around her. Honouring her memory now means doing everything I can to give our children the safe, loving, and hopeful future she dreamed of for them. This includes meeting their daily needs, ensuring their education and healthcare, and eventually relocating them to the UK once I am settled in my nursing role, so we can rebuild our lives together as a family.

I am committed to this journey, but I cannot do it alone. I am reaching out for support to help cover essential needs such as food, clothing, housing, childcare, schooling, healthcare, and the significant costs involved in caring for three young children during this painful transition. Your support will also help make it possible for me to reunite my children with me in the UK, where I can provide stability, security, and a future filled with opportunity.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of these three children. Your kindness will help provide not only practical support, but also emotional stability and hope during a time of profound loss.

I never imagined saying goodbye to Doris so soon. The pain of losing her is immeasurable, but in her memory, I choose to keep going. I choose to be strong for our children and to protect the future she wanted for them. If you are reading this, you are witnessing the plea of a father who loves his children deeply and is determined to honour their mother’s legacy.

If you are able to donate, share this story, or keep our family in your prayers, please know that your compassion means more than words can express. From the depths of my heart, thank you for standing with us during the darkest chapter of our lives and for helping these children grow up surrounded by love, care, and hope.
