Help Rainey with costs for surgery in Montreal

Hi there! I'm looking to raise money for my nephew Rainey Delaurier and his family as he will be going for extensive surgery in Montreal in February 2022.

At the young age of 6, Rainey had fallen in little league hockey where he was taken to the hospital and subsequently diagnosed with "Ollier Disease", a rare non-hereditary bone condition. This revealed enchondroma irregularities in his bones. Enchondroma is a type of benign (noncancerous) tumour that begins in the cartilage found inside the bones.

Over the years, Rainey has experienced multiple fractures which has led to over 100 hospital visits, and hospitalizations. The unpredictable nature of the disease and irregularities on his bones, has caused deconstruction to his healthy bone composition. This has left severe deformities in his lower limbs. Rainey is now more susceptible to compound fractures, has mobility issues, and is at signifiant risk for tumours which could become cancerous.

Rainey, now 13 years old, is required next month to have life changing surgery. The complex surgeries to correct the deformities, lengthen his leg, and manage the tumours, requires specialized surgical care and intensive rehabilitation services in Montreal as they are not available in Manitoba.

Rainey’s mom, Cher, will be taking over 6 months of unpaid leave from work to stay with him in Montreal for the entire duration. His dad (my brother), Tom, will continue to work and will be travelling back and forth to Montreal. There will be many out of pocket costs for the family including travel, lodging, rehabilitation equipment and other unexpected costs.

Rainey has never let the disease define him. It has given him the gift of resilience and strength. He keeps himself active by playing water polo, sledge hockey, competitive swimming, basketball and online gaming. Rainey is passionate in everything he does. Time with family is most important to Rainey, he is a loving soul.

Rainey has been preparing mentally, emotionally, and physically for his upcoming surgeries plus the long recovery in Montreal. He is excited yet scared.
