Help Rádio Quântica move studio & start a community artspace

No ano em que completamos 10 anos de existência, e depois de ajudarmos a criar o festival Ano Q, diversas oficinas, um laboratório de rádio comunitária e o Planeta Manas, estamos, mais uma vez, a entrar numa fase de transição. Com o fecho do nosso querido ninho Planeta Manas, que não conseguiu resistir nem à gentrificação, nem à violência policial que se impõem nestes tempos tão difíceis de neo-fascismo liberal, temos que mudar a localização dos nossos estúdios e base de operações.

Falámos e pedimos ajuda a instituições, município e juntas, que nesta altura nos comunicam não ter espaços ou relegam estas decisões para depois das eleições de outubro. Resignámo-nos a procurar no assustador mercado imobiliário de Lisboa e encontrámos um espaço em Alcântara, mais acessível por transportes públicos e perto de vários serviços, que vai servir a nossa comunidade em actividades como exposições, diretos de rádio, oficinas, conversas, quem sabe até pequenos concertos e em geral um hangout space cultural onde, agora de dia, nos possamos encontrar e fazer cultura juntis (podem já vê-lo nestas imagens com os nossos sonhos desenhados a lápis por cima). Mas a especulação é grande e vamos pagar 900 euros de renda - o mínimo que conseguimos para um sítio com espaço suficiente, independente, digno e bem localizado. O nosso orçamento anual, que conta com um apoio da Direcção-Geral das Artes, prevê um crowdfunding por ano - e é isso que estamos aqui a fazer.

Estamos a tentar angariar 2.500 euros para ajudar a cobrir os seguintes custos imprevistos e conseguir cumprir o nosso plano de oferta cultural anual:

Em 2025, ainda podem esperar da Rádio Quântica:

A Rádio Quântica é uma associação cultural sem fins lucrativos e não tem um modelo de negócio porque a nossa atividade é paralela à lógica mercantilista: oferecemos cultura grátis ou muito acessível. Apoios públicos, crowdfunding e algumas receitas próprias de eventos ou alugueres de estúdio é tudo o que temos neste momento, mas mantemos o compromisso continuar a poder servir o underground.

Qualquer contribuição é muito, muito apreciada. Sabemos que uma larga parte da nossa comunidade tem também dificuldades financeiras, pelo que pedimos, especialmente a quem tem recursos, que nos ajudem a manter-nos à tona. Prometemos que estaremos cá, a devolver todo o amor e mais algum, e de portas abertas para vos receber.

Despedimo-nos de coração partido (o fecho do Planeta manas deixa-nos inconsoláveis) mas com esperança para um futuro em que conseguimos continuar a resistir. Até já!

In the year we celebrate our 10th anniversary—and after helping bring to life the Ano Q festival, countless workshops, a community radio lab, and the beloved Planeta Manas—we’re once again entering a period of transition. With the closing of our dear nest Planeta Manas, which could not withstand the combined forces of gentrification and police violence in these hard times of liberal neo-fascism, we are now faced with the task of relocating our studios and home base.

We reached out to institutions, the municipality, and local councils, only to be told that there are no available spaces or that decisions would only be made after the elections in October. So, we braced ourselves and turned to Lisbon’s terrifying real estate market. We found a new space in Alcântara—better served by public transport and close to many amenities—which we hope will become a cultural hangout for our community, hosting exhibitions, live radio shows, workshops, talks, maybe even small concerts. A space where, in the daytime now, we can gather and make culture together (you can already see it in these images, with our dreams sketched over in pencil). But speculation is fierce, and we’ll be paying €900 in rent—the bare minimum we could find for a space that’s independent, decent, well located, and big enough. Our yearly budget, which includes support from the Direção-Geral das Artes, includes room for one crowdfunding campaign—and this is it.

Rádio Quântica is a non-profit cultural association. We don’t follow a business model because what we do exists outside of the market logic: we offer culture that is either free or accessible. Right now, our only sources of income are public funding, crowdfunding, and some revenue from events or studio bookings—but our commitment remains the same: to keep serving the underground.

Any contribution is deeply appreciated. We know many in our community are also struggling financially, so we’re especially calling on those who have the means to help us stay afloat. We promise to give all that love right back, and then some—with doors wide open to welcome you in.

We say goodbye with heavy hearts (the closure of Planeta Manas has left us inconsolable), but with hope for a future where we can keep resisting. See you soon!
