In April 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The earthquake and its aftershocks affected an estimated 8 million people—more than a quarter of Nepal’s population. Nearly 9,000 people lost their lives, more than 22,000 were injured, and about 750,000 houses were damaged or destroyed. About 16,000 schools were damaged or destroyed; in some areas, 90% of schools were destroyed.
All Hands and Hearts is a global disaster relief nonprofit that partners with communities to deliver immediate response and long-term recovery. I have been selected as a volunteer for this organization to participate in their Nepal Earthquake Disaster Relief project. I will begin my volunteer journey in January 2026.
As a volunteer, I will participate in the construction of 2 new disaster-resilient buildings and the rehabilitation of existing school compounds.
This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I am beyond grateful and honored to be given the chance to provide support and relief to the community of Jhunga in Nepal. However, my traveling expenses will not be paid for by AHAH. Flights to Nepal are very expensive, and I will have other expenses such as food and a work visa. Your support would mean the world to me, and it will be a contribution to an incredible cause that I deeply believe in. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
With gratitude and love,
Rachel
