I have been fortunate enough to have Rachel as a friend since 6th grade, and Shanon since he's been in her life. Rachel and I were pregnant with our girls together, and we've been able to watch each other raise our kids.

In 2014, due to some unforeseen circumstances, Rachel and Shanon found themselves raising a newborn. They put their entire lives on the back burner in order to provide safety, stability, and a loving home for her. They have battled in court for her protection. They have faced endless attacks on their character, as well as their physical safety. They have advocated for her education, health, and well-being. Not only have they spent their entire life's savings on court and attorney fees, they've also drained their retirement funds.

Those of us closest to Rachel have watched her fight this battle publicly with grace and dignity, all while crying in silence when no one is watching. If you've ever asked if they need anything, they've likely said no. They do not want to be a burden to anyone. They don't like to ask for help.

This is where we come in. As their friends and family, we DO have an opportunity to step in and help. We CAN make their burden a little lighter.

The trial is over, and the courts have sided with Rachel and Shanon. The adoption process can begin as soon as they have the funds. I am asking you to consider giving what you're able to give in order to get this ball rolling. This family needs closure.

The other part to this is that Rachel and Shanon have asked that this not be shared publicly or on social media. They are not looking for a money-grab. In fact, I really had to push to get them to agree to ask for help, and they only agreed to share this with a select few trusted people. But they need it. They have stepped up in a way that not many people are willing to do, and now it's time for us to do the same as their community!
