Hello!
We are a mixed immigration status family with a new baby, and we urgently need to begin several processes and accomplish a list of tasks before January 2025. These processes and tasks include but are not limited to:
- Applying for a US passport for the kiddo
- Beginning the process to apply for a Haitian passport for the kiddo
- Renewing Alex's passport
- Filing for a marriage license in the US
- Marrying in the US
- Establishing power of attorney and medical proxy for both Alex and Salomon
- Creating a will for both Alex and Salomon
- Creating a trust to establish care for the kiddo should something happen to Alex and Salomon
- Covering a consultation with an immigration lawyer and/or a family lawyer in January if necessary
- Hopefully keeping a tiny bit of cash in reserve if something urgent that requires a relocation happens
- The cost of fees taken by Gofundme
With increasing costs of living and daily life, the cost of these tasks and processes is currently out of reach for us.
This is a round estimate based on what we have looked at and researched; it is likely it will be more if we need a lawyer. If it is less, any excess funds raised with be donated to the Haitian Bridge Alliance, which is aiding Haitian immigrants and would-be immigrants at the border and in the US in processes to establish legal documentation, file for asylum, and fight deportation.
Our communities have supported us in the past and we know this is a big ask, particularly when so many of us are in similar situations. We appreciate any help that is possible, no matter how big or small.
