Welcome to my first community food drive gofundme page.
In light of the most recent cut to social programs, specifically to food/community services, I have started this page to donate first to The Isaac’s Community Center, The Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen & to the local UES Community Fridge (Upper East Side).
The idea is to fill the Community Fridge with pre-made meals. These meals will be going to families in need in the immediate area. Any smaller purchases of dry foods, as well as grocery food will be delivered to the community fridge leading up to the week of Thanksgiving.
The Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen serves warm meals, groceries and dry goods to over [phone redacted] people Monday through Friday. The meals/food is provided to all those that have a proper ID and show proof of citizenship. This kitchen provides services indiscriminately and provides to all communities, regardless of race, religion or financial status.
This page is not meant to be a political post or to take away from others who would like to reach out to their community. Everybody is entitled and encouraged to donate to their own community.
This page is meant to provide to the community that I am local to and help those very much in need.
The large bulk dry goods that are donated will be brought by me to the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen. Since the church already provides large quantities of hot meals, groceries and dry goods, I will be personally cooking food and providing smaller quantities of groceries and dry goods to the Upper East Side Community fridge whenever possible.
This way every one that donates knows where their money will be going. I understand everyone has something going on so I am using this page to give people an outlet to provide for others. Dry goods can be heavy and shipping food is often difficult. Any funds will used to purchase food that will go directly into the meals that I cook and anything left over will be donated directly to the church fund.
Thank you for taking the time to help whether it is through direct donations or even if it is reading and passing on the information to others so that we reach out to as many people as we can.
Full Funds disclosure: The funds raised will go directly to my bank account where we will use those funds to:
1. Provide pre-made meals to the Upper East Side community fridge weekly.
2. Purchase canned goods & groceries to be delivered to the Isaac’s community center and the community fridge weekly.
3. All funds not used for these services will be donated directly to the Holy Apostle Soup Kitchen through the donation link on their website.
A couple stories to tell since we started, straight from my experience with dropping off food.
- A woman and her babies came to the fridge when I had dropped off canned goods/groceries that this fund has helped supply. “God is good, they have baby food for us and I’m so thankful.”
We make sure to provide food for everyone including children of a young age which we already see makes an impact directly in the lives of those who need it.
- A gentleman that was waiting for me to finish unboxing the food told me that he could not believe that people from the area in New York City were actually donating to help this cause. “These people live here? They are from New York? I can’t believe it, this is not the generosity that I have experienced here.” He couldn’t believe I was born here. This man told me he has been waiting behind restaurants and bakeries after they close to take what food he can from the dumpster and then he brings it home to his family and others. He was very thankful to get food from a place that was meant to be for him and full of love.
- Members of our community, including workers in our building, workers at the Isaac’s center & and former workers I have had the pleasure of working with in the past, have all used this fridge and have been personally thanking us. They all wanted me to extend their sincerest gratitude for everything this group has done to get the go fund me to where it is today.
- Today when we were dropping off canned food that was from our child’s school, I saw two young brothers, taking food from the community fridge, and we personally gave them the bag that I was given to donate. Those brothers were wearing only t-shirts in this cold weather. We asked if they needed warmer clothes to which they said they will take anything because they try to wear the same clothes so we don’t have to pay to wash them.
It broke our hearts to hear that.
The next objective that we will be trying to reach is donating clothes (especially with the cold weather coming up). We will send out a message to collect for that in the near future. One step at a time.
Thank you all for what you have done! We couldn’t do any of this without your support. I hope this message reassures people that what we are doing is making a big difference and we are effectively helping people in a very positive way.
