Alois Mutinhiri has spent the better part of the last decade working tirelessly to provide for the children in his home in Mhondoro, Zimbabwe. In 2020, he founded the Ngoma yePasichigare Cultural Center, where students are encouraged to embrace their cultural heritage through music. There are currently 25 students, all under the age of 15 who are studying at the Center. They have excelled at tradional mbira music and toured all over Zimbabwe, acting as ambasadors of their culture and encouraging peoplen of all ages to embrace and preserve the unique music of Zimbabwe.
Alois has been incredibly resourceful and provided enough mbira (thumb pianos), mateze (gourd resonators), and hosho (gourd shakers) for all of his students to learn. Now, the time has come to provide an ensemble of marimbas for the Center. Jacob Mafuleni, an incredible musician, instument maker, and educator, has agreed to build the instruments, he just needs the money for materials and his labor. With your help, we can easily make this happen and the kids of Ngoma yePasichigare can continue to deepen their cultural knowledge and share it with the world!
