Help Protect Wilder's Rights and Family Security

Hi everyone! It is not easy to ask for help, but if you don’t ask, the answer will always be no. In this uncertain time, vulnerability, sharing our truths, asking for support, and hearing each other will be an important way for us all to get through.

Due to the results of the election and because we do not live in a blue state, Jenn and I are extremely concerned about the potential for political and legal repercussions that could negatively impact our lives, and more importantly, Wilder’s life. We have spoken with a lawyer and she highly recommends that we complete our life and estate planning to protect our marriage and assure Wilder does not lose any rights to his parents as well as our/his assets, if the unthinkable were to happen. Wisconsin is not a next of kin state for cisgender and straight individuals, add the fact that I am a man of trans experience and we have a paper trail that shows our marriage has gone through different iterations, we and our lawyer are very concerned about what could potentially happen. We can’t imagine the state taking him should something happen to us and making decisions on his behalf, such as who they would choose to be his guardian. As his parents, that tried for 5 long agonizing years to have him, it is our duty to protect him and make decisions on his behalf that will allow him to always be with his family and not ever become a ward of the state. We want to be sure that he is secure no matter what.
