I want to tell you about a wonderful and selfless couple who made an unexpected yet beautiful decision that changed their lives forever.

Not long ago, they were asked to care for a baby born into a heartbreaking and complicated situation. Though they weren’t actively planning to grow their family, they embraced the moment to help a child and mother in need. With less than three weeks’ notice, they became full-time caregivers to a sweet, joyful infant who was just four days old. Their goal has always been to bring stability, love, and a sense of home in a time of uncertainty.

Even before the baby was born, they poured everything they had—emotionally, physically, and financially—into this situation. They stood by the biological mother, who is currently incarcerated, without judgment. They offered not only their time, resources, and encouragement, but also a safe space to talk through her feelings. And when the time came, they didn’t hesitate to step into the full-time caregiver role, committed to giving this baby the best possible start in life.

Since then, they’ve provided a safe and nurturing home, filled with love, consistency, and security. But despite all of their best efforts, the biological mother—who remains incarcerated and unable to personally care for the child—is now petitioning to terminate their guardianship.

Because of ongoing legal proceedings and safety concerns, we cannot share names or additional identifying details. The couple recently learned that the biological mother is attempting to smear their name online and has been combing through social media in hopes of finding anything that could be used against them. While she hasn’t found anything (because there’s nothing negative to find), the threat is real and deeply concerning.

She is trying to label this loving, committed couple as unfit. But if you knew what I knew—and if you looked into what she was convicted of—you’d understand exactly why this child must remain in this home.
