Help protect Dry Valley, gateway to Indian Creek!

Donation protected
Dear local community and friends of our precious land,

Help us protect and preserve Dry Valley!

We need your help! We are a group of diverse humans living in and around Dry Valley, the gateway to Indian Creek/Canyonlands-Needles District.

In January of this year, a private developer proposed a "Luxury Hotel Resort" in Dry Valley on SR-211, San Juan County. The approved proposal includes a restaurant, cinema, swimming pool and spa facility in the agriculturally-zoned corridor. What does this mean for existing property owners, ranchers, land-lovers and community members in and around Dry Valley? What does it mean for the future of Dry Valley itself, where water is already a huge concern?

As the first large-scale commercial development in this area, we are deeply concerned about the precedent this will set. Do we want to see all of Dry Valley lined with motels? Do we want a single, outsized commercial development to drain the remaining water in the valley, leaving little for the ranchers and homesteaders who have worked these lands for years?

In an effort to defend Dry Valley's rural land and resources, we are opposing this development. In early February, we filed an official appeal against the proposal, which will be reviewed by SJC's Administrative Law Judge. Our goal is to set reasonable and responsible conditions on this commercial development and those that will surely follow on SR-211. The appeals process requires legal counsel to give us the best chance for a successful outcome. Therefore, we are reaching out to community members like yourself who want to protect the irreplaceable heritage of this area.

Please help us raise funds to offset the legal expenses of this appeal, which are estimated between 7K-10K. There are many reasons to push back against this irresponsible development, and we believe our commonalities outweigh our differences when it comes to protecting this land.
