Help Perry adopt Gianna!

Donation protected
Gianna first came into my life soon after her 3rd birthday. Almost instantly, I felt a bond that would never be broken. We’ve been playing, dancing, singing, laughing, learning, and exploring ever since!

In her first year of preschool, Gianna called me “my Perry.” When she figured out that “Daddy” was not just a name but a position in her life, she asked if I would be her Dad and if she could call me Daddy. With tears of joy and pure love in my heart, I told Gianna that I would be anything she needed or wanted me to be. “My Perry”, her friend, or her Dad - it didn’t matter what she called me, I already knew I will ALWAYS be there for her. I will always be present in her life - offering her a shoulder to lean or cry on, caring for her through the good and the bad, and loving her unconditionally.

I have been supporting Gianna emotionally and financially since she was 3 years old. My support for her (now a spunky, sparkly 6-and-a-half-year-old) has never wavered -- it has grown stronger, and our connection has grown deeper. Gianna has become part of my forever family, and I will forever support her.

When I got engaged to Elizabeth, Gianna knew her Mommy would eventually take my last name. After Gianna’s little brother was born with my last name, she was vocal about wanting to be a Knowlton too. Given how much I love Gianna, and that Elizabeth, Gianna, Cash and I have already grown into a beautiful family, I was excited and eager to start the process of legally adopting her.

Gianna knows exactly what is going on and openly wants to be adopted by me. She knows that I will always be there for her - no matter what. She knows that I will not treat her any differently than her little brother. She is my daughter - regardless of whether or not we share DNA. Biological connections don’t guarantee healthy families - unconditional love, unwavering support, and deep energetic connections do. For Gianna, sharing my last name with her mother and brother is a sense of security and a source of pride.

I need to adopt Gianna to feel secure that no one could take her away from me against her will, god forbid something happened to her mother. I never want to imagine losing her. Adopting her will allow me to legally protect her and continue to guide her through life - without restrictions or limitations. It’s inherently clear how deeply I love and care for Gianna and how much she feels the same. If you truly knew our family, you would know that this adoption guarantees that Gianna will always have the father she wants and deserves.

We originally expected this adoption to be a simple process, given Gianna’s biological father abandoned her, caused her severe trauma, and has been voluntarily absent from her life - for most of her life. Unfortunately, paternal manipulation in court and lying under oath has complicated this process. Our attorney feels extremely confident that we will win full parental rights for Gianna - exactly what we deserve. The only question is whether or not we can afford to continue fighting in court. The legal fees for this adoption have already exceeded what Elizabeth and I can afford financially, but we will not cease to fight for our little girl.

Now we must reach out for financial support - from our family, our friends, and compassionate folks far and wide. We need to raise funds to to complete Gianna’s adoption - to keep her safe and secure. For this adoption, we have already covered a retainer fee, the home study, multiple court appearances, several preparation meetings with our attorney, a pre trial, and our first trial. Our second trial is scheduled for late March. We are currently prepping for this trial, in hopes there will only be one more afterwards. We’ve been advised that this process could take upwards of a year, if the appeal is necessary. Anyone who has been in a similar situation knows how difficult it is to ask for financial aid. Although our goal is to raise $25,000, the amount needed to complete the adoption process is likely to exceed that greatly. We will keep this campaign open until the adoption is complete and provide updates as the process progresses.

We are doing what we truly feel is right and in the best interest of Gianna. I would pay any price to ensure Gianna’s future is safe and to keep the smile on her face, but it’s time we asked for the support of anyone who hears our story. Any amount can help!

If you can’t help support financially, emotional support and prayers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Please share this widely with your family, friends, and networks.

With love and gratitude,

Perry, Elizabeth, Gianna & Cash
