As I train for the Philadelphia Marathon for the second time this November, I wanted to try something new. What if I could do some good for the larger world with my effort? What if I could raise money to help those affected by the opioid crisis?
This ongoing tragedy touches us all and yet when confronted with the breadth and depth of it, we often ask: what can I do to make a difference? My friend, Dr. Kevin Moore started a non-profit called Courage Medicine to answer that question. It reframes the way we respond to addiction and people in need by providing compassionate and comprehensive health services based on an integrative approach. Caring for people with chronic health conditions and behavioral health issues, Courage Medicine provides medication-assisted recovery for opioid use disorder, primary care, specialty HIV care, individual and family counseling, treatment for hepatitis, psychiatric medication management, screening for sexually transmitted infections, and harm reduction services. When members of the community need help, they can simply walk in and receive care in the Northeast, Kensington, and Southwest Philadelphia locations.
My goal is to raise $2,000 to help promote health in underserved communities, empowering those experiencing mental illness, drug addiction, or poverty. Thanks in advance for helping others take their first steps toward wellness.
