Help Pedro keep Carl’s studio open

Hi, my name is Pedro. I am writing this message to ask for your support. Let me tell you why.
Our dear Carl was my best friend in Costa Rica, we used to share our stories with each other, our adventures, our personal struggles, our small victories and some dreams too. A lot of that comes from the fact that we had the same profession, the same passion. We were inspired by the beauty and the power of images, both still and moving images.
In the last two years we worked together on many occasions, we traveled together, we motivated each other, we gave advice to each other, we helped each other. Nobody can ask for a better friend. For those that knew Carl, you know how true this is. Carl was a hard worker, and he worked hard to build his studio at Casa Kia Ora. He called it Costa Rica Filmmakers. He was very happy with it. He was building his project but also building community. Everyone could feel it.
When Carl’s parents, Dale and Eric, arrived in Costa Rica, they asked me if I would be interested in continuing his project, in keeping the studio running. The immediate answer in my heart was yes, but I had to be cautious and asked for a few days to give an answer. After losing my own studio in Berlin, due to Covid restrictions and lockdowns, my financial situation got precarious and I wasn’t sure if I could take that role. I have a four year old boy and I need to be real, things are very tight at the moment. To take over a project like this, I believe one needs a certain dose of peace of mind, and some assurance that things will not fall apart if there’s any unexpected occurrence.
Your help would support the initial rents, the purchase of a proper photo printer and a nice sign for the outside of the studio.
To be totally honest, this situation represents the chance to keep alive something valuable that Carl started in the community, but also an important opportunity for me to start over with a solid project. So, I need to be transparent, I need your support to keep Carl’s project alive but also to give myself a real opportunity to make it happen.
This isn’t easy for me. I have never asked for this type of support before, but the last two years changed me a lot. Moving to a new country like Costa Rica changed certain views I had, and now I believe from my heart that when things are true, when they come from a good place, when the intention is sound, asking for support shouldn’t be something to be ashamed of.
I would love to be the new gardener of Carl’s vision, and pour water in the seed that he left us here. With my own skill and passion, I want to keep this project alive, make it stronger, keep it healthy and honor his initiative, his effort and his memory.
I would like to say that, on a personal level, this is only possible because I have the blessings of Carl’s parents, now I only need the blessings of his friends.
And before I finish, I would like to say only one more thing:
Thank you for your friendship Carl, my dear dear friend. I know you are now looking at us and smiling above the clouds. We will meet again one day, all of us, and we will eat a burrito together with you. You will always be in our hearts.
If you can support with a donation, I will be forever grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I would love to see you all again in Costa Rica.
Pedro
