Help pay for Latinx to receive 6 mo of therapy

July is minority mental health month, in celebration of this holiday Therapy for Latinx has decided to raise $10,000 to provide 6 months of therapy for Latinx individuals in the community who are in need of mental health services. Since Trump was elected our community has seen an increase of racism, violence, and we've been consistently seeing people dying trying to migrate or in the hands of ICE. This has caused trauma, PTSD, secondary ptsd, depression, and other mental health conditions. 

As the founder of Therapy for Latinx, I read messages and emails on a daily basis from people who are suffering in our community but can't afford services. On average we receive about 20-40 DM's on a daily basis and about 100 requests a month for more mental health resources in cities we do not have listings in yet. We do our best to connect people with services but often time they are met with a waitlist and 2-3 months to see someone who can help. It's been a helpless feeling to have so much reach online and yet not be able to help out more. Sometimes I receive messages from people who are suicidal or family members who have a loved one who is showing symptoms of schizophrenia and they don't know where to go or are scared because of not having papers. So I wanted to see what we could do as a community. 

I decided to create this fundraiser so that we can sponsor 6 months of therapy for 25 people. If we continue to raise money then we can send even more people to therapy. 

How will this work? 

I'll be putting out an online application form in English and Spanish for people to fill out. It's important for us to provide our community with dignity throughout this process. Once we receive the applications we can start choosing who will be eligible by the following circumstances:

We will prioritize people who are undocumented

We will prioritize our transgender community 

We will prioritize afro latinx

We will prioritize deaf and disabled folx 

We will prioritize those directly affected by ICE detention centers

We will prioritize marginalized communities and those who do not have access to public services because of documentation

Open to all ages

Must attend therapy here in the states

Can identify as any gender

Open for ages 18+

Must want to go to therapy (please don't apply for someone else if they do not want to attend)

We will keep the Go fund me up until July 31st. We will announce the 25 selected individuals by August 15th or sooner depending on how much we can raise. 

We will then support the individual in finding a therapist that is best set to suit their needs. Once they have chosen their therapist Therapy for Latinx will pay the invoice directly to the mental health professional. We will document on our website a transaction list of money raised,  and copies of invoices made out to a therapist in order to provide transparency in our community. We are based in LA but applicants can be in any of the 50 states.
