Pat's going out on her own terms, surrounded by the love and care of her family with home hospice.
Help her children to be there for her in her final days.
Growing up with 12 older brothers and sisters, Patsy Deanda knows the definition of family. She raised her children to be able to rely on each other. In the coming weeks, they’ll be facing lost income as two of her children, Marc and Nichole, and her grandson, Nichole’s son Lucas, take unpaid personal leave to provide the 24-hour care and company she needs. Pat has dedicated her life to her children, and wants nothing more than to spend her last moments in their hands, surrounded by their smiles, laughter, and companionship. They need your help to do this.
Nothing could force her away from her children before she was ready. With the support of a tight family, she's spent years fighting against cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal pain, dialysis due to failing kidneys, and COVID (twice!). Now that she's finally ready to say goodbye to the physical pain and suffering, she's going to do it on her terms.
The Struggle
Nothing is more important to Pat’s children than family. Marc and Nichole have been dedicated to caring for Andy, Nichole’s twin, through renal failure and dialysis for the last 7 years, while trying to find answers for the unexplained gastroparesis that he has long suffered.
When Pat also went into stage 5 renal failure a year and a half ago, Marc and Nichole, with Nichole’s son Lucas began taking on the added responsibility of caring for her. At that point Nichole, who shares her home with Pat, dropped down to part-time, working the bare minimum number of hours, to care for her mom while still trying her best to help Andy at the same time.
In July 2022 Pat had a heart attack. Just a few months later she suffered a fall, breaking her hip. After surgery, she was transferred to a rehabilitation facility to receive physical therapy at the beginning of November. Pat’s commitment to returning home enabled her to put an incredible amount of effort into her rehabilitation, surprising her doctors and therapists. Sadly, her recovery came to a halt when she had to be pulled out and transferred back to the hospital due to the rehab facility’s neglect.
If you know this family, you know their hearts are dedicated to service. Endless returnable can fundraisers to help friends and family in need, helping Andy get through many rough days and nights, making sure people get to their doctor appointments and dialysis, Marc working to help lost and stray animals and Nichole implementing fundraisers like “Jeans for a Cause” where she and coworkers would pay to be allowed to wear jeans, working with the Billy Pease foundation – these are just a few examples.
Many of us have been the beneficiary of this family’s generosity of both time and resources. It’s our turn to be a blessing to Nichole, Andy, Marc, Lucas, and of course Pat – let’s show them our love and support.
