Pat Phillips has served the marine community of Marin for 40+ years, helping countless customers with their boat maintenance and repair needs. But at 4:00 a.m. on March 16, 2025, his ability to serve this community came to a sudden and devastating halt.
While Pat was out of town, a burglar broke into Surgin Marine Services, stealing valuable tools before setting fire to the building. The blaze-fueled by gas cans brought to the scene — completely destroyed the structure.
Everything was lost:
- Pat's specialized machine shop equipment, his hand tools, customer motors and drives, and the place he'd worked from for decades were destroyed.
- Even more heartbreaking is that the building and its contents were uninsured.
Why We're Raising $25,000
In one night, Pat lost his business, his equipment, and his ability to earn an income. At 66 years old, Pat is facing the unimaginable, and the funds raised here will help him:
- Purchase new machine shop equipment and hand tools so he can get back to repairing boats
- Secure and set up in a new shop location
- Cover initial startup costs so he can begin serving his loyal customers once again
Together, we can help Pat take the first steps toward restoring not only his tools and trade, but the purpose and livelihood that have defined his life's work.
A Time to Give Back
If you've ever met Pat, you know he's more than a mechanic — he's a great friend, a trusted partner, and a fixture of the Marin boating community. For decades, he's shown up for others. It's our turn to show up for him.
We're asking for your help to raise $25,000 to get Pat back on his feet. Every dollar makes a difference and will help him take his first step towards recovery.
Any support you can offer-whether by donating or spreading the word —would bring much-needed hope and support during an incredibly difficult time. Let's rally around someone who's spent a lifetime supporting our community.
Thank you,
— Friends of Pat
