Help Paris and Emma Provide Essentials to the Homeless
Donation protected
Hello! Our names are Paris and Emma, and we are graduate students at the University of Northern Colorado. We originally met during our graduate school orientation, and have been best friends ever since. Upon getting to know each other, we discovered our mutual love for paddleboarding, musicals, hockey, and helping those in need. Paris has experience volunteering at a rescue mission in California, distributing resources to those in need, in addition to building a new soup kitchen. When Paris moved to Greeley to begin graduate school, she volunteered at the Weld County Food Bank, sorting and handing out food. In 2017, Emma started a community service project called “Tie One On” where she and others worked together to hand-knit and crochet scarves for the homeless population in Denver. Every year, scarves are hung around Denver with notes saying “If you are cold, this was handmade for you”. Over one-hundred scarves have been handed out every year. As we near the end of our college experience, we are looking to combine our forces and give back to our community.
Currently, 100 scarves are hand-made and ready to be handed out. Our goal this year is to add to the scarf project by putting together hygiene bags for the homeless population in Denver. These reusable bags will include daily essentials that most of us take for granted. Our current list of items includes toothbrushes, toothpaste, flossers, deodorant, antibacterial wipes, tampons, pads, hair ties, socks, water bottles, granola bars, & a mini first aid kit. We will gather these supplies from local dollar stores, and we are estimating that each bag will cost around $17 to put together. Our goal is to make around 100 bags to match our number of scarves. These bags will be assembled during our Thanksgiving break, and will then be distributed around Christmas time with the scarves.
We appreciate all of your time, help, and generosity in making this project happen. In the case that we raise any amount over the anticipated cost of the bags, the additional funds will go towards the cost of yarn for the scarves. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. We will post updates about our project on Instagram @Tie_One_On_Project. If you have any questions, want more information, or have any handmade scarves you’d like to add to our collection, please feel free to reach out to us via our Instagram. We also have an Amazon Wishlist that we have linked below. Thanks!
