Help Parents-in-Law with Temporary Housing
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Minori. On behalf of the Kayama family, I humbly ask for your support in helping our parents-in-law cover their rent until they find affordable housing for seniors.
My parents-in-law, ages 82 and 73, have had a long history of enduring financial hardships and living on minimal income since being forced to retire from their respective employment. My husband, brother-in-law, and I have supported them for many years, including their move from their home in New Jersey to our current residence in Los Angeles (my family of 5 live in one apartment, while my parents-in-law live in the apartment next door).
However, as the rent and cost of living continue to increase at alarming rates in LA, we have exhausted all of our resources and options and can no longer provide enough financial support to cover their rent ourselves.
Therefore, my parents-in-law have recently applied for several potential affordable housing complexes for seniors in the greater Los Angeles area. However, like many looking for affordable housing, they are currently on the waiting list, which could take up to 6 months, even 2 to 3 years. Unfortunately, at this rate, my parents-in-law would be forced to move out of their current apartment by the end of June and make the difficult decision of leaving Los Angeles, possibly the United States altogether.
We are not accustomed to seeking financial support, especially for personal matters such as helping our family – we do not wish to burden others. Thus, it was extremely tough to compose ourselves in initiating this temporary relief for our parents-in-law. Our three children, who really LOVE their grandparents, were the most significant factor in our decision. They do NOT wish to see them leave Los Angeles and return to Japan. The youngest one is still ten months, and we would like to celebrate her 1st Birthday and many more with the grandparents.
My husband and I continue to support them, and we are using our connections to find affordable senior housing as quickly as possible. However, as the waiting lists get longer and we continue to wait for a response from the housing complexes nervously, we are running out of financial resources and time.
Therefore, to help us extend their stay and give our family some additional time with them until the affordable senior housing becomes available, we humbly ask for your kind support for our children’s grandparents. The funds will cover my parents-in-law’s current monthly rent of $1,650 per month for the next six months.
Thank you truly and sincerely for your very kind support and generosity.
Update - June 26th, 2022
Dear Kind & Generous Donors:
On behalf of the Kayama family, I wish to express my deepest thanks to you for all your kind and generous donations. Many thanks to all of your amazing support, we have reached our goal a lot sooner than expected, and my parents-in law have been granted extra time to continue living in their current apartment and spend time with their grandchildren. We will humbly and graciously use these funds to continue covering their rent until they are accepted to an affordable senior housing program, hopefully in the upcoming months.
I would like also take this moment to send a special heartfelt thanks to my dear friend, Diora Baird for giving me the love, courage, and support to start this GoFundMe campaign for my parents-in law. I will take your love and kindness to heart and I hope to pay it forward myself to others.
Lastly, I wish I can thank you all in-person, so please forgive me for this mass email. I cannot express in words how humbled, moved, and grateful I am to receive your amazing generosity and heartfelt support. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten, and we are forever indebted to your kindness.
Thank you all again, truly and sincerely.
With Love, Humility, and Sincere Gratitude,
Minori
