Wednesday morning, March 19th, our lives took an unexpected turn.
On Jo’s way to work, she hydroplaned and crashed into the cement median on the interstate—just 25 weeks pregnant. Paramedics rushed Jo to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had suffered a placental abruption, causing Jo internal bleeding and her baby girl to lose blood as well. To protect both of them, the decision was made to deliver her via C-section.
At 12:01 PM on March 21, 2025, a little warrior, Meila Teresa Hawk, made her way into this world, letting out a tiny but mighty cry for her mom and dad.
1 lb 10.8 oz of pure strength and resilience.
In just four days, Meila remains on ventilatory support and has undergone a blood transfusion, phototherapy, and treatment for a pneumothorax. She continues to receive vasopressors to help stabilize her blood pressure. She is a fighter in every sense of the word, and with God’s hands guiding her and the power of prayer surrounding her, we have faith in the incredible future ahead. Though she is small, she is mighty, just like her mama!
After six long and challenging days in the hospital, Jo has been discharged home with specific restrictions to support her recovery. Despite the emotional and physical toll of this experience, she has shown remarkable strength and resilience, facing every challenge with unwavering courage.
The journey ahead for the Hawk family is filled with challenges—extended hospital stays, specialized care, and mounting medical expenses. While we focus all our energy on supporting Meila and being there for her every step of the way, we’re humbly asking for your help.
Every donation, big or small, will go directly toward Meila’s medical care, travel expenses for hospital visits, food while at bedside, car repairs from the accident and the support they need during this incredibly difficult time.
With your help, we know our tiny warrior will continue to beat the odds. Please remain thinking about, sending love, and praying for Meila, Brekon, Jo, and Brad as they navigate this new normal as a family of 4.
With love and gratitude,
The Hawk family
