Hello, my name is Kayla. Recently, my mother lost her father and is having a hard time coming to terms with the loss and the financial responsibilities piling onto her lap. My sister, Tessa, and I are trying to raise money to help our mother pay these expenses and help remove the financial burden from the rest of the loss she is already in pain from. The city of Hammond is trying to condemn the house from her. The home is currently in an inhabitable condition due to him being in a poor mental health state for years upon years. The home is not in the best state—he collected a lot of stuff as a long-term hoarder as well as the home not being kept up with in general. My mother and her father had an estranged relationship, but the love was still very much there. They did not speak often seeing as he hardly spoke to many, so unfortunately our family among others didn't learn of his passing until a bit of time had gone by. Due to this she has many unpaid bills falling onto her that she needs to pay so she can hopefully get the house that holds memories she has with her father and everything that is left to his name—otherwise she will lose the house and everything left of her father. The bills we know of so far include a few months of water, electric, gas, a hazmat mattress removal and there will be either 3 or 4 dumpsters needed as well on top of lawyer fees and other things. She will also have to worry about repairs on the house and property taxes. Our mother works extremely hard overnights and has done so for many years—trying to work towards a good life and a real home where rent is not an option. This has been extremely stressful and emotional for her. Our mother is the most wonderful and loving person and does anything and everything for the people she loves and we would so greatly appreciate anyone who can even help us and our mother out even just a little.
