Help Us with a Medical Clinic for a Shipibo Community in the Peruvian Amazon
For generations, the Shipibo people of the Peruvian Amazon have relied on the wisdom of traditional plant medicine to heal, restore, and sustain life. Two years ago, the Esperanza de la Selva Organization with the support of the Nimea Kaya Healing Center, established a small traditional clinic in the village of Santa Isabel Bahuanishu. This clinic was built to serve low-income patients who have little or no access to medical care. With dedication and heart, their team of experienced nurses and healers has been providing treatments at no cost, ensuring that every person—regardless of financial means—has the opportunity to receive care.
Today, this humble clinic serves not only their own community but also more than 45 surrounding indigenous villages. Each day, the number of patients grows as word spreads about the compassionate, effective care we provide. However, the clinic now urgently needs support to meet the rising demand. To continue serving the people in their communities, they must equip the clinic with essential medical materials such as hospital beds, stretchers, pediatric cribs, portable sink stations, stethoscopes, desks, and construction supplies to finish building the facility. These resources will allow them to provide safe, dignified, and effective care for children, families, and elders alike.
Our goals go beyond immediate medical treatment services. This clinic is also a place of education and cultural preservation. The Esperanza de la Selva Organization teaches children and families the importance of traditional plants and their healing power, ensuring that this ancestral knowledge is passed down to future generations. By strengthening this medical clinic, they can reduce preventable diseases, improve quality of life, and expand the outreach to the most remote and undeserved indigenous communities in the region.
We are seeking to raise $6,000 to provide the equipment and materials necessary to complete and expand the clinic’s work. Every contribution, no matter the size, directly helps us care for the health of thousands of people while preserving the traditions that have sustained our people for centuries.
Your generosity will plant a seed of healing that will grow far beyond one community—reaching villages across the Amazon and protecting the health and heritage of the Shipibo people. Together, with your collaborative spirit, we can build a stronger, healthier future.
