Our grandma is a survivor in every sense of the word. She escaped violence and hardship as a Laotian refugee during the Vietnam war, worked in potato factories and fish farms, and always made sure her kids had breakfast waiting—even when she had to leave for work before dawn. She’s funny, vibrant, and a wonderful cook and singer, but her life has been marked by decades of domestic violence and control. Now, as a widow in her late 70s, she’s still facing challenges: her current apartment is unsafe, with mice and ants, and she doesn’t know what she’s entitled to, and she’s afraid to ask for help or use the internet.
If we can’t secure a new home for her by June, she’ll have to move far away to California, losing her independence and the chance to be close to her grandkids. We want to give her a fresh start—safe, clean housing, a new mattress, and the freedom to choose her own furniture. Dreaming big, we hope to cover a year of rent, moving costs, and everything she needs to feel at home.
As a survivor myself, I know how much safety and freedom mean. My grandma waited her whole life for a chance to be free, and your support can help her finally have the fresh start she deserves. Any help brings her closer to a safe, happy home, and means the world to our family.
