Help Our Farm Provide Free Eggs to SNAP Recipients

Donation protected
Dear friends,

My name is Jordan, and I am writing on behalf of Arán Na Beatha/Bread of Life Farm, a new community in the tradition of the Catholic Worker movement based in Washtenaw County, Michigan.

The Catholic Worker movement has existed for nearly 100 years and while each community, house of hospitality, or farm has taken on slightly different work, most bear a few common threads: hospitality, mutual aid, and the Works of Mercy.

We are a household community of four people who purchased a ten acre farming property in October of 2024. Over the past year, most of our energy (and money) has been spent on much-needed improvements to the house, and over the past several months we have acquired 17 egg-laying hens. They provide us with a plethora of eggs, far more than we could ever eat.

Right now, 41.7 million Americans are without the essential food assistance provided by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), leaving the most vulnerable among us hungry and struggling to put food on the table. Mutual aid organizations, food pantries, and other local resources in our area are being flooded with requests for assistance, all while food access is used as a political football. Considering this disastrous turn of events, we have devised a way to get eggs into the fridges of those who need them most.

With your donations, we will be able to cover the cost of chicken care (feed, hay, any medical/veterinary expenses, etc.) for the better part of the next year so that we can give these eggs to those who need them most, free of charge. $2,000 would help us provide over 300 cartons of eggs!

Even if SNAP benefits resume, and we hope they do, we are committed to using these funds to continue to provide eggs to those who need them.

We are most grateful for your support as we enlist our hens into a program of mutual aid and community support.

With love and solidarity,

Jordan, Misha, Katya, and Ned
