Help our family be together on Jaxson’s transplant journey
Donation protected
Hi my name is Emma, I’m hoping to raise some funds for our family. So we can spend precious time together while my son Jaxson and my partner Cameron are about to take a huge step in our lives. We are now very close to the day that Cameron is going to be donating a kidney. So Jaxson can receive his life changing kidney.
Jaxson was born with a congenital urologic condition that affects 1 in 8000 boys. Posterior urethral valve (PUV) It wasn’t found until 3 years of age, by then the damage had already been done, his bladder was ruined and his kidneys had been impacted. So Jaxson spent from the age of 3 with a urostomy bag for urine. Also taking plenty of different medications, supplements and injections to keep his kidney function going for as long as possible.
Jaxson hasn’t let this affect him, living his childhood to the fullest enjoying school, making good mates, fun with family, loved keeping fit and going on long walks, 100s of hospital and doctors appointments and his favourite thing of all. playing over 150 games of junior football for Dunolly and Maryborough teams with his dad Cam as coach. When jax turned 15 he got his first job at McDonalds in Maryborough where he still works now when he’s able to.
unfortunately in 2022 when Jax was 17 things started to go downhill and his kidney function started to decline fairly quickly eventually the decision was made that Jaxson was in end stage renal failure and dialysis the only option.
Jaxson has been doing 8 hours a night peritoneal dialysis for nearly 2 years now. Spending a third of every day hooked up to a machine to keep him going until a kidney becomes available. Jax has had to stop a lot of things he enjoyed, no more football or his long walks. So many diet restrictions, not much time or energy for maintaining friendships. He is always so tired. He’s had a lot of time off work, he went from full time back to part time. He sleeps a lot.
Cam being the most amazing dad has done all the hard work to be able to donate a kidney to Jax. Sadly there are just a few tiny things that mean Cam can’t donate his kidney to Jax. So Cam is donating his kidney to a complete stranger and another beautiful stranger is donating a kidney to our beautiful boy.
With the process happening a fair way from our home in Dunolly Cam, Jax and I all need to have quite a bit of time off work. Cams recovery will take 8-12 weeks. Jaxson’s recovery will 6-12 months depending on the outcomes of a lot of different things. But he has to relocate to Melbourne for up to 3 months so he can have daily testing to make sure the new kidney settles in well, getting his medications in order and there is no signs of rejection.
Any funds raised will help us all to be able to be together and keep everything on track at home during this huge time for our family. Helping me to be there for Cam and Jax as they recover. Helping us so jaxsons siblings can come and spend time with him during his recovery. while helping Jaxson to be able to stay near the hospital be comfortable and stress free.
