Our family—Sadie, Thomas, our 10-year-old sons Kade and Ryker, and a baby on the way—are facing a difficult time. We’re in the middle of two separate custody cases, both of which have brought unexpected legal and evaluation costs. (Double the costs at once!) At the same time, we’re struggling to keep up with rent and car payments amongst all other bills, and the stress of these financial burdens is really weighing heavily on us.

Since October, we’ve been doing everything we can to keep our family together. I’ve been unable to work the past few months due to a difficult pregnancy, so we’ve been relying on Thomas’s income to cover all our bills, legal fees, and the costs required to maintain contact with our children. We gained custody of one of our boys but the battle is far from over. The expenses have quickly added up, and we’ve had to make impossible choices—like using money set aside for custody evaluations to keep our cars from being repossessed. Our landlord has told us that our late payments are no longer sustainable, and we’re at risk of losing our home. We are facing some financial hardships that will in turn affect our custody cases and all our hard work to this point will feel like a wash.

It’s very hard for me to ask for help, and I wouldn’t be reaching out unless it was truly an emergency. I will be starting work this coming week, but right now we need urgent support to cover our rent and the evaluation costs needed to move forward with our custody case. Your support will help us keep a roof over our heads and give us the chance to reunite our family. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to maintaining stability and hope for our children’s future. It takes a village and I know we have some amazing friends and family in our corner! Unfortunately a lot of times custody battles feel like a financial war and it shouldn’t come down to that in my opinion.
