Help Our Family Recover from the Lahaina Fires
Donation protected
On August 8th 2023, hurricane winds caused a fire to rapidly spread through Lahaina, the heart of Maui, Hawai’i. Our family has lived here for over four decades and it’s where we currently have over 50+ family members displaced by the fire. They came from the Philippines and have raised generations of children here. They are the most hard working and family oriented people you’ll meet.
Within a few hours, their community, their prized possessions, their memories— everything that they have built and worked so hard for throughout their lives was destroyed in the fire. This includes over 10 houses belonging to our relatives.
Luckily, our relatives were all able to make it out alive, however, some were forced to jump into the ocean to escape the flames. They are scattered across the island amongst various shelters, and without power and cell phone service, it’s been an additional nightmare to locate everyone.
At this point, all of our family’s homes have been destroyed, and therefore, they have nowhere to return to. They had to urgently escape without warning and left with just the clothes on their backs. In addition, many of them worked in Lahaina at places that were burned down, meaning they no longer have their livelihoods.
Hawaii is so much more than beachside resorts, its Aloha-spirit is made up of hard working people like our family who work tirelessly to ensure that their families are taken care of.
The money will go towards necessities, including food, clothing, medicine, accommodations, baby formula, diapers— anything that will help our family rebuild.
Any and all support is appreciated.
Mahalo,
Theo Krakower and Bella Rose
UPDATE 8/14/23:
Thank you so, SO much to everyone who’s donated and reached out so far. It seriously means the world to us. Bella was interviewed on CNN Philippines about the fire and the impact it’s had on our family. If you’d like to watch it, I’ve attached a link below.
