Help Our Family Get Back on the Road: A Vehicle for Freedom, Safety, and Stability

Hi, my name is Amber, and I’m reaching out on behalf of our small but strong family — myself, my husband, and our 13-year-old son. Life has thrown us many challenges, but we’ve always done our best to face them with resilience, love, and hope.

My husband was born with spina bifida and lives with the daily challenges that come with it. I’ve always worked hard to support our family. I was a nurse for nine years, dedicating myself to caring for others, until my own health began to decline. When I could no longer manage the physical demands of full-time nursing, I transitioned into retail. I worked as a retail assistant, then a retail manager at Millers clothing stores, until our company went redundant. Since then, I’ve been diagnosed with a neurological condition that affects my mobility, and I now rely on mobility aids to get around.

Despite everything, our focus remains on giving our 13-year-old son a stable, happy life. He is our light, and we want to continue doing everything we can for him he's sports desires and needs.

Right now, we’re facing an urgent situation. I am scheduled for major surgery within the next 30 days. Recovery will be long and difficult, and without a working vehicle — and no close family nearby to assist us — we are deeply worried about how we’ll manage. From getting to hospital appointments and post-op checkups, to everyday needs like groceries and school runs for our son, reliable transport is absolutely essential for us.

Our four-wheel drive was more than just a car — it was a lifeline. It gave us not only practical independence, but also freedom and happiness. Even though my husband uses a wheelchair, we’ve always loved getting outdoors as a family. Camping trips, four-wheel driving adventures, beach days, holidays, family gatherings — those were the moments that brought us closer together and gave us joy. We are unable to just borrow one or rent one due to hand controls needed Unfortunately, since I became unwell and our vehicle broke down, we haven’t been able to enjoy any of those things for years. That part of our life — the part that lifted our spirits and bonded us as a family — has been on hold.

We’re asking for help to either repair our current vehicle or purchase a second-hand one that suits our needs. Ideally, an older wagon or station wagon would be perfect something we can afford to upkeep with parts readily available and reliable— something with enough space for mobility aids, medical equipment, and all the essentials a family like ours requires. We’re not seeking anything fancy, just something safe, reliable, and practical.

We know times are tough for everyone, and we don’t ask for help lightly. But if anyone has even $1 to spare, please know that it truly adds up. Your support, no matter how small, could help us through one of the hardest moments we’ve faced — and bring us a step closer to reclaiming the freedom and happiness we once had.

Even if you can’t donate, sharing our story would mean the world to us.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Amber, Trent and Logan
