My family and I have always tried to face life’s challenges with faith and determination, but this past year has tested us in ways we never imagined. It started when our kitchen was overtaken by black mold, forcing us out of our home and leaving us unable to work for several weeks. As we struggled to catch up on bills, another mold outbreak hit, keeping us out even longer and making it nearly impossible to recover from the first setback.

Just as we were trying to get back on our feet, our car’s engine blew while we were out of state visiting universities for my son. Suddenly, we were stranded without a vehicle, making it even harder to keep up with daily life and responsibilities. After finally returning home and making several repairs, we learned that our rental company was ending our lease unexpectedly, leaving us without a deposit or first month’s rent to secure a new place. Now, we’re facing the devastating possibility of having to move into a hotel that can fit our family of seven, or even sleep in our car, just to save enough for a deposit while trying to keep our kids in school and maintain our jobs.

We never thought we would find ourselves in this position, but here we are—doing everything we can to keep our family safe, together, and stable. The faster we can secure a car and a new home, the better chance we have to keep our children in school and protect our livelihoods.
