Help Us Give Our Girls a Safe Home While We Care for Grandma ❤️
A Military Family, Two Daughters With Autism, a Father Living With PTSD, and a Grandmother Battling Dementia — One Family Trying to Find Peace and a Place to Call Home.
Sometimes doing what's right for the people you love means making sacrifices you never imagined. And sometimes, even when you're doing everything you can, you find yourself in a position where you have to put your pride aside and ask for help.
This is our family's story.
At the end of December 2025, my husband and I packed up our lives in Georgia and moved our three beautiful daughters back to Florida.
Our twins are 12 years old and both have autism, and our youngest daughter just celebrated her second birthday.
We didn't make this move because it was convenient or because we had a better opportunity waiting for us.
We moved because my parents needed us.
My mother was diagnosed with dementia in January 2026, and I knew in my heart that I needed to be close enough to help my father care for her.
Watching someone you love face a disease that slowly changes their memory, understanding, and everyday life is heartbreaking. My mother spent so many years taking care of me, and now that she needs help, I want to be there for her.
But in trying to be the daughter my mother needs, I've found myself struggling to provide the environment my own husband and children desperately need.
Five People, One Upstairs Loft, and a Family With Different Needs
Right now, my husband, our three daughters, and I are all living together in an upstairs loft inside my parents' home.
While we're incredibly grateful to have a roof over our heads, the reality is that our current living arrangement has become increasingly difficult for everyone.
Our 12-year-old twins are both autistic, and one of them struggles significantly with sensory overload and emotional regulation.
For her, having a quiet, predictable space where she can retreat, decompress, and feel safe isn't a luxury. It's a necessity.
Unfortunately, with five people sharing one open living space, including an energetic 2-year-old, finding that peace and quiet is nearly impossible.
But our daughters aren't the only ones in our family who need a calmer environment.
My husband served in the military and now lives with PTSD.
He has already given a part of himself through his military service, and like so many veterans, he carries challenges that aren't always visible to the outside world.
As his wife, I want him to have a home where he can feel comfortable, have privacy, and find moments of peace, too.
Living in such a confined space with three children, two of whom have significant sensory needs, makes creating a consistently calm environment difficult.
And then there's my mother.
When our daughters experience sensory overload or meltdowns, the noise and distress can be especially upsetting and confusing for her as she battles dementia.
It's heartbreaking because nobody is doing anything wrong.
My daughters cannot control how their brains process the world. My husband did not choose to live with PTSD. And my mother cannot control what dementia is doing to hers.
Every person involved deserves understanding, compassion, and a place where they can feel safe.
Yet right now, we're trying to meet all these different needs while sharing a home that simply wasn't designed for our situation.
As a mother, it breaks my heart knowing my daughters need more space than I can currently provide.
As a wife, it hurts knowing my husband deserves a peaceful home after everything he's been through.
And as a daughter, it's equally painful knowing that the very reason we moved back to Florida—to help care for my mother—has created additional challenges for her.
I'm trying to be the mother my children need, the wife my husband deserves, and the daughter my parents are depending on.
And the truth is, I'm struggling to find a way to do all three.
Our Dream Is Simple: A Camper We Can Call Home
We're hoping to raise $20,000 to purchase a used camper large enough to comfortably house our family of five.
We aren't looking for anything brand-new, fancy, or luxurious.
We don't care about having the newest model, the nicest furniture, or the most expensive features.
We simply want a safe, dependable camper with enough sleeping space for our family and some separation so our daughters can have the privacy and personal space they need.
Our hope is to place the camper on my parents' property, provided we can meet local requirements, so we can have our own living space while remaining close enough for me to continue helping my father care for my mother.
A camper would mean so much more to us than just having a place to sleep.
It would mean giving our autistic twins a quieter, more predictable environment where they can feel safe and comfortable.
It would mean giving our 2-year-old daughter room to play, grow, and simply enjoy being a little girl.
It would mean giving my husband, a military veteran living with PTSD, a more peaceful and private space to call home.
It would mean giving my mother a calmer environment as she navigates the challenges of dementia.
And it would mean allowing me to continue helping my parents without sacrificing the well-being of my husband and children.
This isn't about wanting more. It's about needing a living environment that works for the people we love.
Why We're Asking for Help
Our family lives on a very fixed income, and unfortunately, purchasing a camper on our own simply isn't financially possible.
We have started this GoFundMe with a goal of raising $20,000 toward purchasing a safe, livable used camper and helping cover transportation, setup, and any necessary utilities or hookups.
We would also be incredibly grateful if an RV dealership, business, or individual had a suitable used camper they would be willing to donate.
Asking for financial help isn't easy.
We've always tried to do the best we can with what we have, and making the decision to move our family across state lines was something we did out of love and responsibility.
We knew there would be challenges, but we never imagined how difficult it would become to balance the needs of our autistic children, my husband's PTSD, and my mother's dementia under one roof.
We're not looking for someone to give us a luxurious lifestyle.
We're simply asking for a chance to create a healthier, more stable living environment for our family.
We're Not Asking for the World. We're Asking for a Little Peace. ❤️
If you've ever raised or loved a child with autism, you understand how important a safe, sensory-friendly environment can be.
If you've ever loved a veteran living with PTSD, you understand that some struggles aren't visible and that having a peaceful place to call home can mean so much.
If you've ever cared for someone with dementia, you understand the heartbreak of watching someone you love slowly change.
And if you've ever found yourself caught between caring for your children, supporting your spouse, and caring for aging parents, you understand how overwhelming that responsibility can become.
I don't want to have to choose between being the daughter my mother needs, the wife my husband deserves, and the mother my children need.
A camper on my parents' property could give our family the opportunity to meet those responsibilities together.
A place where a 12-year-old girl who struggles with sensory overload can have somewhere quiet to retreat.
A place where her twin sister and their 2-year-old little sister can feel safe and comfortable.
A place where a military veteran living with PTSD can have a little more peace and privacy.
And a place that allows us to remain close to a grandmother who needs her family now more than ever.
Every Donation and Every Share Matters
We understand that times are difficult for so many families, and we don't take anyone's generosity for granted.
Whether you're able to donate $5, $10, $20, or any amount, every contribution brings us one step closer to giving our family a safe and comfortable place to call home.
And if you're unable to donate, simply sharing our story could make an incredible difference.
Perhaps someone knows an RV dealership willing to help.
Perhaps someone has an older camper they no longer need.
Or perhaps our story will reach someone who understands what we're going through and wants to make a difference.
We would be forever grateful for any help, no matter how big or small.
We moved back to Florida because we believe family comes first.
My husband has served his country. We're raising two daughters with autism and a toddler, while doing everything we can to help my parents navigate my mother's dementia.
We're not asking for a perfect life.
We're simply asking for a safe place where our children can thrive, my husband can find peace, and my mother can have the comfort she deserves.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading our story, sharing our fundraiser, donating if you're able, and reminding our family that kindness and compassion still exist.
We're not asking for the world. We're just asking for enough room in it for everyone we love. ❤️
With love, gratitude, and hope,
Courtney and Family
