Help Our Families and others

Hello!
Our names are Caitlin and Shayntel. We are two mothers whose families are suffering due to the lack of responsibility from our landord Anji Reddy and his property manager Joe Ngugi. In the course of two years thousands of dollars have been taken from families for rent while they are left to live in homes that have been deemed INHABITABLE per the city of Somersworth NH. Here’s our stories,

“We moved into our home on May 1st. Thought we hit the jackpot. 3bedroom, heat & hot water included! We paid 1st months rent and security deposit upon signing the lease. They were then paid IN ADVANCE of $7500 for the next 5 months of occupancy. Once the weather got cold, our “jackpot” home turned into a 3 bedroom unit deemed I N H A B I T A B L E per the City of Somersworth. 9 violations. They have even tried to FORGE our rent when we tried getting assistance during Zach’s surgery. We are not in arrears when it comes to our rent as of 2/8/23. Besides the fact that we are withholding for February 2023 and the money is in escrow. The only things they have completed on this violation list is smoke detectors and a new countertop. Which was installed completely wrong & I had cut myself on it. The whole building runs on the same furnace, they turned our heat/hot water off Friday right before the below freezing weather. We went all weekend with no heat, hot water, or even running water at that point. We spent Sunday fixing a pipe in the basement that had burst. (They didn’t care, they bitch buttoned me about it and I hadn’t heard from them for 4 days.) Then spent Monday breaking into the basement unit (with given notice) because the unit was actively flooding. Our concerns don’t get met, we get threatened, they do not care for the safety or wellbeing of their tenants. Our family is scheduled tomorrow for exposure testing due to the nature of our home. They currently have two other homes (that we know of) with 13+ code violations EACH. Our basement unit was just deemed dangerous and they have been trying to rent it out. PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM 11c ASH ST in somersworth.

I have texts, photos, receipts everything. Even still paid rent when the violations were incomplete. We have been working with code enforcement religiously and they have not received one paperwork in regards to anything that has been completed. I’m sure as hell not going to be bullied out of my home. Best believe I’m putting up a fight. I have much more information. But if anything can lead me to a lawyer. That would be great. Thank you!”

I am now being told “We can’t fix anything unless you pay” We are being bullied and he is being preemptive towards my family.

“No heat on more than a handful of occasions in the winter weather, no water at times, over a week of sewage in my bathtub and without a refrigerator for a while. These are just a few of the many experiences since moving into our "home". My family moved into 86 high st on 8/8/21. This unit was advertised as a 2 bedroom and ended up being a 1 bedroom with an unfinished attic. On 10/15/21 my family asked Anji where to submit safety concerns, some of which were addressed. In December of 2021 our family had no heat, not the first time, and contacted the Somersworth Police Department after receiving a response from the landlord "Do you know what time it is"? Somersworth Police Department suggested contacting code enforcement upon seeing the living space. Somersworth Code Enforcement did an inspection identifying multiple concerns including inadequate heating supply, unsafe staircase to attic, unsafe railing and holes in the attic floor. Additionally, light fixtures in the attic not to code, holes in bathroom wall, cracked broken kitchen floor tiles and electrical receptacle in bathroom and kitchen are not GFCI protected.
We continue to go to court since March of 2022.
My family just went from 2/2/23 until 2/9/23 with no heat after the landlord chose to not fill the oil before the cold snap. We also went 3 days with no water due to burst pipes.
We're certainly not the only tenants out there who are experiencing these kind of actions. Every day I worry what the day is going to bring as their office is directly below my apartment. Our hope with the GoFundMe is to find a new space for our family as we continue to navigate this nightmare.”

Thank you for listening to our story!
