A few nights ago, my dad was violently robbed while working at his small money transfer business located in Iqbal Foods off of Erin Mills in Mississauga. Four individuals assaulted him and stole approximately $60,000 in cash. During the robbery, my dad was beaten and had to be taken to the hospital.
Unfortunately, my dad does not have insurance that applies to this incident, which means the stolen funds cannot be recovered. For a small, family-run business, this loss is devastating. The money that was taken represents years of hard work, trust, and service to the community.
My dad is 65 years old and has spent his life working honestly to support our family and help others. Seeing him go through this has been heartbreaking. He cannot afford to replace $60,000 out of pocket while also trying to heal from what he’s been through.
A CT scan confirmed that he suffered a fracture to his cheekbone. While we are incredibly grateful there was no brain injury, he is in pain and recovering from a very traumatic experience. Beyond the physical injuries, the emotional impact has been overwhelming. He is shaken up and scared, and does not feel safe returning to work.
