Our buddy Sebas is getting top surgery! While they are so excited, they are in need of your help. They have some funds from their last round of donations, but recently found out they will be having much more of their pay taken out during their leave from work. This money will go to meals, supplies, and basic necessities while they are recovering from their surgery.

Hi all! Thanks so much to everyone who has supported me - it means so much to not need to worry this past week ❤️❤️

I’ve had a smooth recovery, with drains removed this weekend. While I’m healing steadily, I'm still needing to take a second week off teaching. I'm writing to say thank you for your support, and also let folks know we’re extending this fundraiser.

Our goal is to reach $2,800 total. That’s the amount that the school district will subtract from my salary to pay a substitute teacher to cover my classes. In preparing for my surgery, I was really surprised to learn that in CA, teachers cannot claim state disability insurance, and after our sick days are gone, the district will subtract half our daily paycheck to pay for the substitute. In my case, that’s 200$ a day, x 14 days. This is pretty wild, because if I was working & earning the same in many other jobs, I would be eligible for up to 90% of my salary replaced with disability. so.. while in the long term I hope that our public schools can get the resources needed so that teachers don't have to pay our own substitutes ---
