English teacher’s salary to teach young girls

Thank you to each and every one of you who donated to this cause which helped us pay for Kelzang’s (teacher) salary for a year. I’m in touch with Kelzang and the students and they are really thriving, both the students and Kelzang. I hear stories of how the girls are working to improve their English as well as their IT skills and how grateful they are for the opportunity to learn. This is why I am trying to extend Kelzang’s stay by a minimum of 6 months. Her year will be up at the end of March and I’m hoping to be able to pay her until the end of September. I only need to raise $2400 this time however the more I raise the longer Kelzang can stay and continue teaching the girls. Any small amount goes a long way! This past January I spent one month at a nunnery in Bhutan. Without knowing what to expect or how the nunnery would respond to a foreigner staying with them for that long, it was definitely a life-changing experience.

I meditated, prayed and took in the beautiful surroundings. What I didn’t prepare for were the beautiful relationships with the young nuns that would quickly develop. Not knowing anything about Bhuddist nuns other than my preconceived notions, I was surprised when they told me, in their broken English, their desire to learn more and that's why I'm raising funds!

Most of these girls come from a poor background and the nunnery is their only option for safe shelter, food, education and a sense of community they could never have received otherwise.

I've hired a Bhutanese teacher for a year to teach the nuns English and basic computer skills. I need to raise $4800 CAD to pay for her salary.

The nunnery Tenchen Choeling Nunnery is home to over 40 nuns and many of them are in their 20s, but some are as young as 11. I realized these girls have the same type of dreams and hopes for their future that anyone has and that is to be happy, safe and at peace. I want to be part of helping their dream come true and you can too!
