My name is Nora Aser (formerly Nora Vigh), and I am a survivor of domestic abuse currently engaged in a complex legal battle to secure decision-making responsibility for my child. This process has been ongoing for nearly two years and remains both emotionally exhausting and financially overwhelming.
I came to Canada as a refugee and have worked tirelessly to rebuild a stable life for my daughter without the comfort of family support. Through determination and resilience, I secured employment and have been supporting us as a single mother. However, because I am employed, I do not qualify for Legal Aid—despite my limited financial resources and the seriousness of the case.
Although I am no longer in a relationship with my ex-husband, the abuse has not stopped. It continues in new forms, including harassment and manipulation through the legal system. He is currently represented through Legal Aid and pays nothing toward his legal costs. Meanwhile, I have already spent over $30,000 in legal fees to protect my child and advocate for her wellbeing.
I am doing everything I can to ensure my daughter’s safety, stability, and future—but I cannot do this alone. Your support will help cover the mounting legal expenses, including court filings, representation, and expert documentation necessary to present our case effectively.
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to justice and peace. Thank you for standing with us.
