Help Nick Recover from a Traumatic Brain Injury

Donation protected
In a tragic and unpredictable accident, on December 30th, 2024, Nick (Nickolas) Holcomb suffered a skateboarding accident resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury that left him fighting for his life.

Nick is a smart, funny, loving, and talented 20-year-old student at the University of Michigan. He is such a bright light in my life and so many others, and an all-around incredible person. We are so beyond thankful for the medical interventions that have saved Nick's life in what seems like a miracle. However, there is still a long road ahead. This time has been extremely hard on his loved ones, and the medical procedures will result in a major financial burden on top of these struggles. Any help is more than appreciated. Nick has a bright and long future ahead of him, and any help to lessen the impact of this tragic accident will help to ease the burdens the Holcomb family faces.

On the night of December 30th, Nick was skateboarding in a parking lot in his hometown of Murray, KY. No one knows exactly how he fell, but he wiped out and landed on his head, immediately becoming unconscious. 911 was called, and he was rushed to Murray Hospital where they did a quick assessment. Realizing the severity, the doctors called for an airlift to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN.

He was brought to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit where they found severe bleeding and swelling of the brain. The bleeding did not stop on its own, and worst-case scenarios kept playing out. After multiple attempts to reduce the bleeding, they had to turn to the last resort, the craniectomy. The doctors remarkably removed a large piece of his skull in a lifesaving surgery. He will be without this piece of his skull for about 3 months before he undergoes a second major surgery, a cranioplasty, to put in a polymer to act as his skull. Without these measures, he would not have made it.

He is currently undergoing rehab in Murray where he is making remarkable strides. Him being as young and strong as he is has enabled him to have this fast recovery. He is talking, walking, eating, and seeming like the same old Nick that we know and love.
