Help us put our members in the driving seat
Newhaven Mencap is a local, non-profit charity supporting people with learning disabilities across Newhaven, Lewes and the surrounding communities.
We are raising funds to purchase our own accessible minibus, which would make a huge difference to our members and the activities we are able to offer.
At the moment, many of our activities take place at Riverside Hall in Newhaven, our community base. While our hall is a vital and much-loved part of what we do, we want to give our members more choice, more opportunities and the chance to experience everything our local community has to offer.
A minibus would allow us to take our members to events, activities, day trips and community activities outside of the hall. It could mean a trip to the seaside, visiting local attractions, attending events, going shopping, enjoying days out with friends or simply having the freedom to explore places that would otherwise be difficult to access.
Why do we need your help?
Newhaven Mencap is a non-profit organisation run entirely by a Board of Volunteer Trustees. We work hard to raise the money needed to keep our charity running and to provide opportunities for our members.
Importantly, we receive no financial support from the Royal Mencap Society. This means that when we want to introduce something new or make a major investment for the benefit of our members, we have to raise the funds ourselves.
A minibus is a significant investment for a small local charity, but we believe it could transform what we can offer.
It would give us the ability to:
- Take members to events and activities across our local community
- Organise days out and trips that are currently difficult to arrange
- Give members greater independence and choice
- Make activities more accessible to people who may struggle with public transport
- Create more opportunities for socialising, friendship and community participation
- Reduce our reliance on hiring external transport
- Bring our members together outside of Riverside Hall
Every donation can make a difference
Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a safe, reliable and suitable minibus for Newhaven Mencap.
Whether you can donate £5, £10, £20 or more, every contribution will take us one step closer to getting our members on the road.
And if you cannot donate, sharing our fundraiser with your friends, family and community would mean just as much to us.
We want our members to have the same opportunities to enjoy their community as everyone else.
