Yesterday, my younger sister Anna’s life changed in an instant. She was in a terrible car accident and had to be life-flighted from the scene. She suffered a broken wrist in two places, deep cuts that required stitches in her lip, and lost several of her front teeth due to the impact. Her car is completely totaled.

We are beyond grateful she’s still here with us — it could have been so much worse — but her recovery will be long and painful. Anna is a brand-new mom to a sweet 2-month-old baby girl, and she and her husband were just starting to find their footing. They recently got married, welcomed their daughter, and have been working hard to build a future together despite some tough challenges.

Just last week, Anna had started a part-time job to help with bills, and her husband had finally landed a new job as well. Now, he’ll need to take on more care for their baby since Anna won’t be able to do it alone for some time, which may put his job at risk too. On top of this, he’s been struggling with severe knee problems that require surgery, making steady work even harder to maintain.

Life hasn’t been easy for them. After giving birth, Anna went through severe postpartum depression and reached a breaking point. She spent time in a mental health facility to get the help she desperately needed and came out with a renewed love for life and her role as a mother. She often talked about how thankful she was to be here for her daughter and how hopeful she felt about the future.

They would never ask for help themselves, but right now, they truly need it. This accident has knocked them down at a time when they were just starting to get back up.
