Help Our Neighbors Detained by ICE Access Legal Representation
On Friday, August 7, five members of our community who live in Manchester were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Londonderry, Vermont, while traveling to work.
They are now facing an unfamiliar and complicated legal process, separated from their families, their homes, and the community they are part of.
Right now, they need legal representation — and they need it quickly.
Northshire Community Coalition is raising funds to help ensure that those detained have access to qualified immigration attorneys and the resources necessary to understand their rights, navigate the legal process, and have someone advocating on their behalf.
Whatever a person's immigration status, everyone deserves due process, access to counsel, and the opportunity to be heard.
These are not strangers. They are our neighbors. They live here. They work here. They have friends, coworkers, families, and people throughout our community who care deeply about what happens to them.
When word of these detentions reached our community, people mobilized immediately. Within minutes, neighbors and community organizations were making calls, locating resources, checking on those impacted, and working to determine how we could help.
Now, one of the most important things we can do is ensure that a lack of financial resources does not mean a lack of legal representation.
Your donation will help cover:
* Immigration attorney fees and legal consultations
* Representation in detention and immigration proceedings
* Filing fees and other necessary legal expenses
* Interpretation and document-related costs
* Other expenses directly related to securing and supporting legal representation
This is a moment when our values are measured by what we do.
We believe in a community where no one should have to navigate a complicated legal system alone. We believe due process matters. We believe every human being deserves dignity. And we believe that when our neighbors need us, we show up.
Please give what you can. If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser widely.
Five of our neighbors were taken into custody. Let’s make sure they do not face what comes next alone.
Fundraiser Disclaimer
Northshire Community Coalition is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the individuals detained in connection with the August 7 ICE action in Londonderry, Vermont. Northshire Community Coalition is not acting as legal counsel and does not make decisions regarding the individuals' legal cases or immigration proceedings.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used to support legal representation and related legal expenses for those affected. Whenever practicable, funds may be paid directly to attorneys, legal service providers, or other organizations providing assistance on their behalf.
If circumstances change, legal expenses are fully met, or funds remain after the immediate needs of those detained have been addressed, Northshire Community Coalition will provide an update to donors explaining how any remaining funds will be handled.
