We are second-generation Jamericans. As adults, we have been fortunate to be able to spend increasing amounts of time in Kingston and Negril. We've grown to love the island and its people, and have learned that Jamaican ingenuity and cooperation are unmatched!

While videos of the devastation can feel overwhelming, your individual contribution to our GoFundMe will make a difference! What you cannot feel through social media is Jamaicans' Tallawah (the phrase "we may be small but we are tallawah" is a popular Jamaican proverb, Wi Likkle but wi Tallawah, which means "we are small but we are strong, mighty, and resilient")!

Jamaicans don’t need us to rebuild their country for them; Jamaica is filled with talented, brilliant people to lead this work. What is most needed from us is support to maintain the physical health and mental stability, born of connection and mutual aid, that the sustained effort to rebuild will require.

More sources of local assistance are necessary. Jamaica is full of skilled tradespeople, farmers, fishermen, and artists who are trying to make sure their neighbors are provided for. But rebuilding after the destruction wrought by Hurricane Melissa will require more than community spirit. It will take NGOs, worldwide governmental assistance, and grassroots action to meet the survival needs of the people.

With your help, in conjunction with the help of our friends and family on the ground, we will grow our efforts to supply our Tank Hill, Negril (Westmoreland Parish) neighborhood with basic food, like rice, beans, canned fish and meat, oil, flour, and salt, and basic hygiene supplies, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap. We can offer direct aid to our community connections.

Tourism is a major employer for Jamaicans, and we understand the value of stabilizing areas like Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, and Negril. However, as storm victims flock to these areas for help, expanding efforts in local areas is becoming more and more critical.
