UPDATE: The whole family has been reunited in Venezuela. I’ve upped the funding goal because I heard from someone else who helped the family that they would love some school supplies if possible.
On June 11th, the family of one of Stella’s former classmates was split up by ICE. Agents took her father and placed him in detention. Mom was given an ankle monitor and told they would be deported back to Venezuela the following week.
With the help of school staff and families, we found an attorney to talk to the family, but it was determined that deportation could not be avoided due to a missed check in appearance. Mom brought as much stuff as they could fit in boxes to me and asked if I could ship it to Venezuela for them.
I’m asking for help in covering shipping. I mailed two of the four boxes today and each box costs about $200 to ship. I was unsure how expensive this endeavor would be but as it is all of their clothes and shoes plus other personal items, I figured I’d find a way to make it happen. They were not allowed to take many things with them when they were deported. Mom and kids arrived back in Venezuela on Saturday. Dad remains in detention.
If you are able to help with any funds, I greatly appreciate it. Any amount helps. Sending love to all in these trying times.
