The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross stands as Victoria’s second most significant war memorial. A place of reflection, remembrance, and pride for generations. It honours all who have served our nation and continues to welcome thousands of visitors each year, especially on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.

Over recent months, the Mount Macedon Memorial Reserve Committee of Management (MMMRCoM) has been working tirelessly to carry out essential safety and restoration works at the Cross site. These works are vital to preserve the memorial's structural integrity, ensure visitor safety, and restore access to the surrounding walking tracks.

What We’ve Achieved So Far

Thanks to strong community support, government grants, and local fundraising, we’ve already been able to:

• Complete major repairs to the Cross foundation and surrounding drainage

• Install new lighting and improve access pathways

• Undertake landscaping and erosion control works to protect the site

• Commission heritage assessments and engineering reports to guide future preservation

These important milestones have been fully funded and completed, ensuring that our treasured memorial is safe and stable for years to come.

WHY WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP.

Despite all the careful planning, we have been advised that the existing footings, once exposed, were found not to align with the original 1990 engineer’s drawings. The structural engineers have since designed a resolution to ensure the balustrade can be safely installed. We are now faced with a situation that was unforeseen by all parties,

This work is vital for the safety of all who visit the Cross and the memorial site, and to say the least, this is an unexpected structural challenge and pushed the project expenses more than $200,000 beyond budget. To finish this vital work, we urgently need your support to:

• Complete the new balustrade and footings around the Cross

• Finalise restoration and reopen safe public access to the memorial
