Help Needed For An Elderly Woman
Donation protected
I am helping a seventy-eight year old woman in our community who has a fairly serious problem. Her house is falling apart and is in need of extensive repair work. The garage roof is caving in and the upstairs ceiling is beginning to crack. It needs to be addressed immediately so that she can continue living there without the house literally falling down around her head! This wonderful woman is a volunteer heavily involved in the San Diego theatre and arts community, and I have known her for most of my life.
Unfortunately, the home has a reverse mortgage so she has nowhere else to go. The contents must also be removed so that the repairs can take place. We have been able to secure some in-kind donations for repair work, but still need funds to cover removal and disposal of the contents. The home also needs to be cleaned and many smaller repairs will be necessary on top of the structural work. We believe that $5,000 should cover most of these expenses.
If you have ever helped an elderly neighbor or family member in need, please think about what that person would do if they had nowhere else to go. With the help of our community, I am confident that we can not only address the immediate problems, but give this wonderful woman a safe place to live out the rest of her days.
If you cannot donate financially but would like to volunteer time and labor, we would welcome help with clearing and cleaning so please let me know. Any in-kind donations are also appreciated, as she needs to replace many items and appliances that have deteriorated over the years.
Thank you for being a good neighbor!
