We are raising funds to help pay the veterinary bills for Zelda, Naty's sweet 2 year old kitty who suddenly fell very sick two weeks ago with non-regenerative anemia; her bone marrow stopped producing red blood cells (RBC) and her body was also attacking the RBC cells. When she was taken in to the vet for lethargy, and no appetite her RBC levels were at 4% which can barely sustain life. Zelda had to be rushed to the Toronto emergency animal clinic for several blood transfusions, all manner of tests, a surgical biopsy of her bone tissue and marrow, and her blood levels continued to drop. She spent 5 days in the ICU, and also received a specialized ‘packed red blood cell’ transfusion. Unfortunately diagnostic testing has been inconclusive which makes treatment challenging. Zeldi is currently home, stable but RBC levels remain low. She is receiving immune system suppression medicine and must return for blood testing every 5-7 days. We are praying her body will restart producing its own red blood cells but only time will tell.
As of now, her medical bills have cost approximately $15,000 and pet insurance will only cover $7500. We are hoping to raise some funds to address this unexpected debt, to help continue Zelda’s veterinary care until we find out her best course of treatment, and to support Naty while caring for her.
For those of you who know Naty, you know how they are the first to step up and be there for others in community, during a crisis or otherwise. We are hoping to show Naty the same reciprocity, love, and care and to support them financially (and beyond!) during what is already such a difficult time. Please consider donating whatever you're able to, your contributions are so appreciated <3
