In less than a year, my family and I have faced unimaginable loss and hardship. We lost all of our elders suddenly, which forced us to move and start over in a new place. As we were trying to adjust, both of my parents became seriously ill and were hospitalized. They are still recovering, and the impact on our family has been overwhelming. We had to make heartbreaking decisions, like surrendering and fostering our beloved pets, postponing educational goals, and starting over at new schools for my younger siblings. We parted with nearly every material possession just to keep going.


Despite these challenges, my parents have not stopped trying to better themselves. They are both looking for work and continuing their education, and I am also searching for employment. But even if we found work tomorrow, the setbacks have been too great. Hospital debt, unpaid bills, and the costs of caring for our sick pets have left us with nothing. As a contractor, I am not eligible for unemployment benefits, which has made things even harder. We are doing everything we can, but we need help to get back on our feet.
