Hey everyone, on Sunday May 28th the Tantallon fire burnt down my dads house, along with all his cars. By the time the evacuation notice came out, my dads house was already on fire. My dad was on a boat and unable to get back to his house in time to save anything. My brother, Nathan, was on his way home from riding so he got to the house pretty late. After I packed up my house, Andre took the baby in one car and I took the animals in the other, but went over to dads house to help Nathan out first.
Pulling up dads street, the air was filled with thick smoke, so when I pulled into dads driveway, at about 5:15, I ran into the house and yelled to Nathan that we have to go now. I had no gas in my car so we had to dump some gas from a jerry can into my car. As we were doing this, the woods between dads house and the neighbour’s house was on fire, about to catch the shed. We had ashes falling on us and couldn’t see 10 feet in front of us due to the smoke. We had to get out of there right then. Nathan had his work truck, with one of dads trailers on back and managed to save the most important things to him, his 2 dirt bikes. That’s it. No clothes, no pictures, no cash, nothing. We left dads house at 5:21. The drive down his street, only 6 minutes later, consisted of everyone’s lawn being on fire and huge flames coming in behind the houses. The evacuation alert only came at 6:09, around 30 minutes after the house was already on fire.
My dad and brother had 5 cars between them, but now they have nothing. They did not have fire coverage on their vehicles. My brother also just bought a new road bike that he was so excited about, and he saved for months to get it, but that is gone. I would like to try to raise some money for both of them to get a vehicle and maybe for Nathan to get a new road bike too. If you aren’t in a position to donate to them, just sharing this post would help out so much.
