My name is Nancy, and I recently moved from Houston to Oklahoma City with my six rescue dogs, some of whom have special medical needs. I’ve always prided myself on being independent and have spent the last 15 years fostering dogs for Houston rescue organizations. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d need to ask for help, but after what happened with my move, I’m reaching out to my community for support.
The moving company I hired gave me a low initial quote to secure my deposit, but after I measured everything, they doubled the price. On moving day, they loaded what they could and then told me I was out of space for the 999 cubic feet I’d paid for. I was forced to leave behind my couch, coffee table, desk and chair, dining table and chairs, my dogs’ crates, boxes of dog food, and cleaning supplies. It was a nightmare, and I’ve spent everything I have just to get myself and my dogs to OKC. Now, someone in Houston has quoted me to bring the rest of my belongings here, but I simply don’t have the funds.
Getting my belongings back would mean so much to me and my dogs. Many of them have medical needs, and having their supplies and crates is essential for their care and comfort. I know times are hard for so many people, and I feel guilty even asking for help, but my friends encouraged me to reach out. Any support you can give would mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering helping us rebuild our home.
