A few weeks ago, while my sister and her family were away on holiday, they came home to an unthinkable sight — someone had driven straight into their house. The impact has caused such severe damage that the property has been deemed unsafe to live in.
She and her husband have four children, one of whom is autistic and relies on routine and stability to feel secure. Their youngest has just started secondary school, adding to the upheaval and emotional strain this has caused.
To make things even harder, her husband is battling stage four bowel cancer, and the stress of all this on the family has been immense. They are desperately trying to secure temporary accommodation through insurance, but it’s proving incredibly complicated. The insurer for the person who caused the damage will not assist with accommodation costs, and their own insurance options are limited.
Right now, the family have found a short-term Airbnb that’s suitable for them and their dog (their cat is being cared for by a kind neighbour), but it’s above the insurer’s budget — and they don’t yet know if it will be approved. The only other option would be moving into an unfurnished property, which isn’t possible due to the damage and restricted access at the house.
We are hoping to raise funds to help bridge this gap — to cover temporary accommodation, essentials, and small comforts that could help them get through this incredibly difficult time.
Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world. It would bring them one step closer to some stability while they try to rebuild their home and focus on what really matters — their family and his ongoing treatment.
It would also help provide some support for their autistic son, who has lost access to his boxing equipment — his main outlet for managing stress. Even being able to sign him up for a local gym would make a huge difference right now.
Please, if you’re able to help in any way — through a donation or by sharing this page — it would be so deeply appreciated.
Thank you for reading and for caring ❤️
